Materialexamined – Femaleholotype: CostaRica, SanJosé, Escazu, 25–29 July 1988, leg. F. D. Parker. – Holotypeisingoodcondition: (1) glueddirectlytothepinbyitsright mesopleuron, (2) rightantennadeficient: presentscape, pedicelandflagellomeres 1–2. Holotype is deposited in HNHM, Hym. Typ. No. 12247.

Etymology – Thenewspeciesreceivedthelatinizedphantasyname “vissas”.

Description of the female holotype – Body 3 mm long. Antenna shorter than body (2.5 mmlong) andwith 16 antennomeres. Scapethriceaslongasbroad ( Fig. 476 View Figs 470–482 ). Firstflagellomeresixtimesandpenultimateflagellomeretwiceaslongasbroad (cf. Fig. 301). – Head indorsalviewtransverse, twiceasbroadaslong (60:29), eye 2.2 timeslongerthantemple, templereceded (cf. Fig. 460). OOL = POL. Eyeinlateralview 1.8 timesashighaswide, genabeyondeyelessbroadeningventrally, 0.8 timesaswideaseye, substriolate- rugulose andsubshiny ( Fig. 477 seearrows View Figs 470–482 ). Clypeustwiceaswidebelowashighmedially, its lowermargintruncate ( Fig. 478 View Figs 470–482 ), subrugulose, dull. Facemoreorlesstransverselysubrugulose (slightlystrongerthanthatofclypeus). Vertexandocciputtransverselysubstriolate, subshiny. Clypeusandfacewithsilverypubescent.

Mesosomainlateralviewstout, 1.2 timesaslongashigh, scabrous, notaulixdistinct. Scutellumroughlyrugose (cf. Fig. 82 View Figs 75–87 ). Hindfemur 2.9 timesaslongasbroadmedially; hindtibiaalmostfourtimeslongerthanbroaddistallyandjustlessbroad (16:17) thanfe- mur ( Fig. 479 seearrows View Figs 470–482 ). Hindbasitarsusaslongastarsomeres 2–4 combined.

Forewingshorterthanbody (2.7 mmlong). Pterostigmawide, 2.1 timesaslongas wideandissuing r fromitsmiddle, faintlybentandsomewhatlonger (8:6-7) than 3–SR, SR1 feeblyS-form, 1–R1 aslongaspterostigma ( Fig. 480 seearrows View Figs 470–482 ).

Carapaceindorsalviewsomewhatglobose, 1.7 timesaslongasbroadposteriorly, longitudinallyandfinelystriatedwithfewanastomoses, apicallyrounded (Fig. 483). Cara- paceinlateralview 3.2 timesaslongashighposteriorly, apicallydeclivous ( Fig. 481 see View Figs 470–482 arrows). Carapaceapico-ventrallyweaklyincurved ( Fig. 482 View Figs 470–482 ). Carapaceapicallywithout foramen. Ovipositorsheathshort, concealed.

Bodyblack, carapaceantero-mediallywithayellowmacula. Scapeandpedicellight brownishwithdarkeningsuffusion. Flagellumblackish. Palpidark. Teguladarkbrown, parategulabrown. Legs 1–2 yellowwithlessdarkpattern. Leg 3 blacktoblackish, yellow: trochanters, baseoffemurandtibia. Tarsi 2–3 darkfumous. Wingssubhyaline, pterostigma brown, veinsyellowtolightbrown.

Maleandhostunknown.

Distribution – Costa Rica.

Taxonomic position – The new species, Microchelonus vissas , is close to M. aperon sp. n. viewingtheirsimilarforewingvenation ( Figs 32 View Figs 32–45 , 480 View Figs 470–482 ), shortcorporallengthandyellowcolouredlegswithmuchdarkpattern; thetwospe- ciesaredifferentiatedbythefollowingfeatures:
