Symplocos ecuadorica Doweld View in CoL , nom. nov.

Symplocos globosa Ståhl (1991: 27) View in CoL , nom. illeg. non Ludwig (1857: 98) (ICN, Art. 53.1).

Type:— ECUADOR. Azuay Prov., 4–6 km N of Sevilla de Oro, 14 Aug 1946, W. H. Camp E-4676 (holotype, S 04-1890!). Eponymy:—After taxon’s locus classicus.

Notes:— Symplocos globosa Ståhl (1991: 27) is a later homonym of the fossil-species S. globosa Ludwig (1857: 98) from the Upper Miocene (Messinian) sediments of Germany (Dorheim, Friedberg, Wetteraukreis, Hessen), which was based on fossil fruits. Since the extant species name is in current use with no synonyms recognized ( Plant List, 2013 –onwards), a replacement name is introduced here.
