Cossa pallida Moore, 1878 View in CoL , Proceedings of the general meetings for scientific business of the Zoological Society of London , 1878: 21 (Type locality: [N India, Himachal Pradesh, Dharamshala] “ Dharmsala (N.W. Himalaya)”).
Material examined. INDIA: 16 males, 4 females, [Himachal Pradesh] UP , Kumaon, Nainital [Naini Valley], 2000m, 13.vii.1984, W. Thomas leg., gen, prep. Nos.: ZSM Arct. 2021-368 (male), ZSM Arct. 2021-371 (female) (prepared by Volynkin) ( MWM / ZSM) ; 2 males, 1 female, Dalhousie , 92-98, Harford Coll., 6/91 ( NHMUK) ; 1 female, Kangra , 83-26 ( NHMUK) ; NEPAL: 1 male, 2835m, Kalinchok Mt., 6 km NNE Muldi ( Murre ), 27.vi.1997, M. Hreblay & K. Csak leg., gen. prep. No.: ZSM Arct. 2021-368 (prepared by Volynkin) ( MWM / ZSM) .
Note. The species has been described on the basis of the unspecified number of males held in F. Moore collection ( Moore 1878). Unfortunately, no syntypes have been located in the NHMUK where the F. Moore collection is currently housed. However, based on the original description and the other specimens from North India also identified by F. Moore and G.F. Hampson as well as ‘ Cossa pallida ’ and ‘ Ilema pallida ’, respectively, the identification of the species is non- doubtful.
Diagnosis. The forewing length is 13.5–14.5 mm in males and 14.0–15.0 mm in females. The detailed comparison with the most similar T. ganesha sp. n. is provided below in the diagnosis of the latter species.
Distribution. The species is currently known from North India (Himachal Pradesh) ( Moore 1878; Hampson 1900) and Nepal (current study).
