Occurs widely in tropical and subtropical areas of the Americas (including the Lesser Antilles), Africa, Asia and the Pacific; polyphagous, feeding on plants belonging to 59 families; a pest of many crops, particularly papaya and ornamental plants, such as hibiscus. Recorded from Saint Lucia by Jn Pierre (2008).
