Type-locality. Mountainous regions around Santa Fé de Bogotá, Cundinamarca, Colombia .

Distribution and habitat. Cercosaura argula is widespread in Amazonia , occurring in Brazil, Suriname, Guyana, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 ). Uzzell (1973) and Dirksen & De la Riva (1999) also reported it from Bolivia. In Brazil, it is known from the states of Pará, Amazonas, Acre, and Rondônia. Cercosaura argula is semi-arboreal and diurnal, inhabits primary and secondary terra firme and flooded (varzea) forests, where it is found predominantly in small vines and low vegetation, but also among leaf litter (Ávila-Pires 1995; Vitt et al. 2003; Whitworth & Beirne 2011).
