Distribution and habitat. Bachia scolecoides is endemic to southern Brazilian Amazonia , restricted to the area between the Juruena and Xingu rivers ( Fig. 3 View FIGURE 3 ). It is known from the states of Pará and Mato Grosso. Bachia scolecoides is fossorial, and according to museum records it inhabits open vegetation enclaves. Despite its description more than 50 years ago, natural history information about B. scolecoides is still lacking.
