Distribution and habitat. Neusticurus racenisi is endemic to northern Amazonia (in the western Guiana region), with its distribution delimited by the Negro, Orinoco, and Branco Rivers, occurring in Brazil and Venezuela ( Fig. 16 View FIGURE 16 ). In Brazil, it is known from the states of Amazonas and Roraima. Neusticurus racenisi is semiaquatic and diurnal, inhabits primary terra firme forest, in elevations between 134–1,234 m, where it is found in or close to water in streams, on the forest floor or boulders, or sleeping on the vegetation above water, 1–4 m high (Donnelly & Myers 1991; Myers & Donnely 1997; McDiarmid & Donnelly 2005; Barrio-Amorós & Brewer- Carias 2008).
