Distribution and habitat. Neusticurus rudis is endemic to northern Amazonia and widespread in the Guiana region, occurring in Brazil, French Guiana, Suriname, Guyana, and Venezuela ( Fig. 15 View FIGURE 15 ). In Brazil, it is known from the states of Amapá, Pará, and Amazonas. Neusticurus rudis is semiaquatic and diurnal, inhabits primary terra firme forest, close to streams or rivers, and swampy areas, in elevations between 0–2,100 m, where it is found in or close to water, among leaf litter, under logs or on rocky substrate (Hoogmoed 1973; Hoogmoed & Ávila-Pires 1991; McDiarmid & Donnelly 2005; Watling & Ngadino 2007; Barrio-Amorós & Duellman 2009).
