Type-locality. Approximately 5 km N of Porto Walter , Acre, Brazil.

Distribution and habitat. Potamites juruazensis is endemic to southwestern Amazonia , with its distribution until now restricted to a few localities in Brazil and Peru, associated with the Juruá, Urucu, and Camisea Rivers ( Fig. 16 View FIGURE 16 ). In Brazil, it is known from the states of Amazonas and Acre. Potamites juruazensis is terrestrial and diurnal, inhabits the leaf litter of low primary forest, not directly associated with streams (Ávila-Pires & Vitt 1998; Vitt & Ávila-Pires 1998; Icochea et al. 2001).
