Habitat. Predominantly native foreSt. Rarely in Pinus radiata plantation foreStS. Not recorded from native Shrubland.

Distribution. North ISland, Northland: Tapotupotu, Radar BuSh, Kohuroa, Unuwhao, Te Huka, Haupatoto, Whakapaku, North Cape.

Remarks. The original deScription of W. reinga by Duncan (1994) requireS little refinement, apart from noting that the diStolateral robuSt Seta of uropod 1 waS unuSually long in the type SpecimenS. Duncan (1994) Stated that the Seta reached half way or more along the rami, whereaS the more uSual State appearS to be Shorter than half way. Waematau reinga cloSely reSembleS W. kohuroa and W. rereke . TheSe three SpecieS are weakly Sexually dimorphic and poSSeSS a firSt antenna that haS a geniculate penultimate article. Additionally, pleopodS 1 and 2 are well developed and biramouS, whereaS pleopod 3 iS veStigial. Furthermore, the morphology and Setation of the telSon and uropodS are Similar, and gillS 2–5 are alike. With the exception of the veStigial third pleopod and the morphology and Setation of the telSon, W. reinga alSo ShareS theSe traitS with W. ringanohinohi . Key morphological differenceS between all four SpecieS are outlined in Table 3. Female W. reinga were Significantly longer than maleS (Table 4).
