Figs 5 View FIGURE 5 A–5D
Diagnosis. Tinodes marcossi n. sp. is closely related to Tinodes forcipatus n. sp. The distinction between the two species was discussed above.
Description. General color brown, with dorsal sclerites slightly darker, wings brown with few small hyaline areas. Forewings each 3.0– 3.1 mm (n = 2), hind wings each 2.4–2.5 mm (n = 2). Forewing forks 2, 3, 4, and 5; crossveins r (R1-R2+3) (hardly visible) and cu (Cu1-Cu2); and hyaline area between R4+5 and M1+2, M1+2 and M3+4 present. Hind wing forks 2, 3, and 5; crossvein r (between R1 and R2+3); and hyaline area between R4+5 and M1+2 present.
Male genitalia ( Figs 5 View FIGURE 5 A–5D): Sternite IX produced much more posterad than anterad; tergite IX relatively short longitudinally, triangular when viewed laterally and dorsally. Tergite X indistinct. Preanal appendages longer than intermediate appendage branches, slightly longer than phallic apparatus and bearing fine setae. Base of intermediate appendage forming hoop above phallic apparatus and extended distally in two asymmetric branches, left branch shorter and slightly thicker than right; base of each branch directed distad, distal part inflected ventrodistad, two long spines arising dorsally beyond inflection; apex conical with preapical, dorsal, bifid, toothlike projection. Phallic guide apodeme thin, sinuous, and pointed anteroapically in lateral view; phallic guides long, curved laterad apically, with rounded apices. Inferior appendages two-segmented: First segment of each inferior appendage larger than second, anterior and ventral edges slightly concave, dorsal edge slightly convex, distal edge sinuous with dorsal and ventral angles extended distad; second segment smaller than first, composed of two branches bent mesoventrad, ventral branch much longer than dorsal branch. Phallic apparatus long, apically curved ventrad with one internal sclerite long and straight, wide basally and narrowing distally.
Holotype: Male, mounted on two slides. MADAGASCAR: Fianarantsoa Prov., small tributary of the Namorona River at Ranomafana , 21°14′53′′S, 47°25′53′′E, 848 m a.s.l., 14.xi.1993, light trap, F.- M. Gibon leg. ( CBGP). GoogleMaps
