Material
Holotype male. From Sanyan Cave (29 ◦ 05 ′ N, 107 ◦ 40 ′ E, 704 m asl), Heyi village, Yangxi town , Daozhen county , Guizhou Province, 26 August 2004. GoogleMaps
Paratype. Eleven males and 16 females, same data as holotype GoogleMaps ; one male and 16 females, from Pianyan Cave (29 ◦ 07 ′ N, 107 ◦ 30 ′ E, 747 m asl), Gechun village, Sanqiao town , Daozhen county , Guizhou Province, 22 August 2004 GoogleMaps .
Diagnosis
The new species is distinguished from relatives by the first median spines (TMS) longer and thicker similar to basal spine (TBS), with bend apically; second TMS short and thin ( Figure 8B View Figure 8 ); median apophysis (M) sheet-shaped, serrate edge at apical part ( Figure 25C View Figure 25 ).
Description
Male holotype. Total length 2.01. Carapace smooth, 0.82 long, 0.82 wide, height at fovea 0.75 times carapace width, yellowish; thoracic fovea brown, needle-shaped ( Figure 9B View Figure 9 ). Chelicerae 0.41 long, yellowish, with eight teeth on promargin and five denticles on retromargin; eight short setae on base. Eyeless, only ALEMs remain on ocular area ( Figure 9B View Figure 9 ). Sternum 0.55 long, 0.59 wide, haired; labium 0.06 long, 0.17 wide, yellowish.
Leg formula: 1423. Leg measurements (femur + patella + tibia + metatarsus + tarsus = total): I: 2.45 + 0.36 + 2.55 + 2.04 + 1.53 = 8.93; II: 2.19 + 0.36 + 2.14 + 1.79 + 1.33 = 7.80; III: 1.68 + 0.36 + 1.89 + 1.63 + 1.12 = 6.68; IV: 2.30 + 0.36 + 2.35 + 2.14 + 1.38 = 8.52. Leg yellowish, tibia I and II with rows of fine hairs on ventral surface, sparse in II; preening comb occurs ventroapically on the metatarsus of leg II and III.
Palpal coxae 0.39 long, 0.15 wide. Palpal measurements (femur + patella + tibia + tarsus = total): 0.57 + 0.17 + 0.26 + 0.39 = 1.38; the length of tibia 1.54 times that of patella. Palpal tibia with three dorsal trichobothria ( Figure 8A,B View Figure 8 ), five ventral spines on TBS and the first TMS longer and thicker ( Figure 8B View Figure 8 ). Tarsus dwindle distally, with relatively shallow AC in middle part, RA in adjacent apical part in retrolateral view; retrolateral side with row of short setae on RA and at middle part of tarsus ( Figure 8B View Figure 8 ); a group of long setae at apical part ( Figure 8A,B View Figure 8 ). Bulb suboval, PL strip-shaped ( Figure 8A View Figure 8 ); M sheet-shaped ( Figure 25C View Figure 25 ); PF transparent, sheet-shaped ( Figure 8A,B View Figure 8 ). Abdomen creamy yellow, without markings, exiguous hair, 1.33 long, 0.92 wide.
Female paratype. Total length 1.84. Carapace smooth, 0.66 long, 0.77 wide, height at fovea 0.80 times carapace width, yellowish; thoracic fovea brown, needle-shaped. Clypeus 0.19 high, yellowish. Chelicerae 0.45 long, yellowish, with eight teeth on promargin of fang furrow and five denticles on retromargin; seven short setae on base ( Figure 8C View Figure 8 ). Eyeless only ALEMs remain on ocular area, two setae behind ocular area ( Figure 9D View Figure 9 ). Sternum 0.57 long, 0.57 wide, haired; labium 0.06 long, 0.19 wide, yellowish.
Leg formula: 1423. Leg measurements (femur + patella + tibia + metatarsus + tarsus = total): I: 1.99 + 0.31 + 2.04 + 1.58 + 1.22 = 7.14; II: 1.79 + 0.31 + 1.69 + 1.38 + 1.07 = 6.22; III: 1.73 + 0.31 + 1.58 + 1.33 + 0.97 = 5.92; IV: 1.99 + 0.31 + 1.89 + 1.68 + 1.12 = 6.99. Leg yellowish, preening comb occurs ventroapically on the metatarsus of leg II and III.
Palpal coxae 0.36 long, 0.25 wide. Palpal measurements (femur + patella + tibia + tarsus = total): 0.63 + 0.10 + 0.40 + 0.65 = 1.78.
Abdomen creamy yellow, without markings, exiguous hair, 1.22 long, 0.87 wide. Epigynal plate broad, simple ( Figure 8D View Figure 8 ); internal genitalia with a pair of spermathecae, coiled sperm duct, paired fan-shaped atria ( Figure 8E View Figure 8 ).
Distribution
The species is known only from two caves, the type locality ( Figure 2 View Figure 2 ), the distance between the two caves about 30 km.
Etymology
The specific name comes from Latin “ identicas ” meaning “similar”, referring to the first median spines (TMS) longer and thicker, similar to basal spine (TBS).
Level of cave adaptation
This species lives entirely in the dark parts of caves and has no functioning eyes and no pigmentation. Troglobitic species.
Natural history
Small spider generally restricted to moist karst caves. Spiders were found from the completely dark and constant-temperature zone. The web is a woven sheet about 10 cm in diameter. Most individuals distributed in the middle layer caves of cave system, in middle stage.
