( Figs 14 View FIGURE 14 , 78 View FIGURE 78 )
Diagnosis. This species is characterized by the presence of the scape with brown stripes on both the outer and inner side, the pedicel with short brown stripe on outer side, the black interantennal spots, the mesonotum covered with dark brown markings but yellow at middle, the metascutellum with markings shaped like mountains, the forewing with brown shadings on pterostigma, apical radial crossveins, basal and distal inner gradate series, base of Rs and psm-psc crossveins, the quadrate cell im, the legs without spots, the male entoprocessus straight in dorsal view, the broad and projected apex of entoprocessus, and the slightly bilobed female subgenitale.
Description. Male. Body length 8.8–9.0 mm, forewing length 12.4–12.6 mm, hindwing length 11.5–12.0 mm.
Head yellow, vertex raised. Compound eyes black. Antennae pale yellow, scape with brown stripe on outer and inner side, pedicel with short brown stripe on outer side. A black interantennal spots present. Clypeal margin with brown stripes. Gena marked black spots. Maxillary and labial palpi brownish yellow.
Pronotum anterior margin shorter than posterior margin, with brown spots on anterolateral angle. Mesonotum covered by dark brown markings, but yellow at middle. Metanotum with markings shaped like mountains.
Legs with dense setae, without spots. Pretarsal claws brown, with basal dilation.
Forewing broad, with brown shadings on apical radial crossveins, basal and distal inner gradate series, base of Rs and psm-psc crossveins. Pterostigma dark brown. Costal area broad basally, with 22–24 crossveins; 9–10 radial crossveins present. m1 smaller than m2, im quadrate; 7 psm-psc crossveins with small brown shadings. c1 smaller than c2, dcc closed. CuP with pale brown shadings. A1 forked, A2 and A3 simple. Inner gradate series with 5 crossveins, outer gradate series with 6–7 crossveins. Faint shadings on forking marginal veins.
Hindwing narrow. Pterostigma pale brown. Costal area with 17–20 crossveins; 8–9 radial crossveins, apical crossveins with small brown shadings; 6 crossveins present between Psm and Psc, basal one and distal two with small brown shadings. Inner gradate series with 4 crossveins, outer gradate series with 5–6 crossveins. Faint brown shadings on forking marginal veins.
Abdomen with dense short setae. Tergum VII and sternum VII subquadrate in lateral view; tergum VIII shorter than tergum VII; sternum VIII fused with sternum IX; tergum IX fused with ectoproct. Callus cerci ovoid. Gonarcus arcuate, lateral arms narrow at base and wide at tip; entoprocessus straight in dorsal view, attached at about basal 1/3 of gonarcus, broad and projected at tip; pseudopenis widest near tip.
Female. Body length 9.5–9.8 mm, forewing length 13.2–14.5 mm, hindwing length 12.4–12.6 mm.
Tergum VII shorter than sternum VII; tergum VII subquadrate in lateral view and longer than tergum VIII; tergum IX fused with ectoproct. Callus cerci ovoid. Subgenitale bilobed apically slightly; spermatheca thick; vela and ventral impression absent; duct long and curved.
Type material. Holotype ♂, China, Yunnan, Mengla, Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden, 551 m, Xingyue Liu ( CAU) . Paratypes: 1♂ 3♀, same as holotype ( CAU) .
Etymology. The specific epithet ‘ montipunctata ’ refers to the markings shaped like mountains on the metanotum in the new species.
Distribution. China (Yunnan).
Remarks. This species is unique because of its special wing marking patterns, the scape with brown stripes on both the outer and inner side, the markings on the thorax, and the legs without spots. Compared to other species of Ankylopteryx , the male entoprocessus of this species is shorter and straighter in dorsal view, and the female subgenitale is bilobed slightly.
