Heilipus myops Boheman, 1836:213 View in CoL (description); Boheman 1843:51 (citation).

Type material. Heilipus myops Boheman, 1836 : we examined the image of the holotype ( Fig. 9 View FIGURE 9 ), undetermined sex, bearing the following label “Typus; Brasilia Freyreiss; Heilipus myops Bhn ; NHRS–TOBI 000003219”, deposited in the NHRS.
Redescription. Length (pronotum and elytra) of males and females 10.8 to 11.1/ 9.8 to 10.8 mm, respectively. Integument sub-opaque, varying from yellowish-brown to black. Rostrum about 1.2 times longer than pronotum.
Thorax. Pronotum ( Figs. 9 View FIGURE 9 A–B) about 1.3 times wider than long, few rounded granules, sparse in approximately two transverse rows in apical region and arranged randomly on sides; with fine scales spread evenly, laterally with few scales. Elytra ( Figs. 9 View FIGURE 9 A–B) about 1.5 times longer than wide, moderately convex, few transverse granules scattered from second interstria, and more concentrated from basal region to elytral callosity; yellowish or orange scales distributed evenly, sub-rounded brown to black macula wrapped by row of clear scales between striae 3 to 6 or 7, located in center of elytra; elytral striae with fine punctures forming continuous lines, flat interstriae. Male genitalia. Median lobe of aedeagus ( Fig. 18G View FIGURE 18 ) with rounded sides, short and not condensed setae at apex; median lobe apodemes about 1.4 times longer than median lobe; internal sac sclerite ( Fig. 19F View FIGURE 19 ) with bisinuate apex, inserted at end of internal sac, covered with very fine and elongate setae. Tegmen ( Fig. 20F View FIGURE 20 ) with dorsal lobes and elongate manubrium; manubrium about 1.3 times longer than dorsal lobes. Female genitalia ( Fig. 21F View FIGURE 21 ). Coxites with short setae at apex; styli transverse. Spermathecal duct short inserted into end of bursa copulatrix. Spermathecal capsule ( Fig. 22F View FIGURE 22 ) curved, slightly rough on inner margin near to collum, ramus slightly developed, with wrinkles; cornu strongly curved, with rounded apex; spermathecal gland very elongate, about 1.9 times longer than bursa copulatrix, similar width from base to apex.

Geographical distribution. Heilus myops occurs in Brazil ( Wibmer & O’Brien 1986), in the Atlantic Forest (Bahia, Minas Gerais, Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and Paraná states) ( Fig. 23G View FIGURE 23 ) .
Associated plants. Bondar (1925; 1936; 1939) recorded H. myops causing damage to new shoots and fruits of cocoa ( Theobroma cacao L. [ Malvaceae ]) in Bahia, without mentioning the specific location.
