Type material: Lectotype, male, PANAMA: “V. de Chiriqui, 3 – 4000 ft., Champion.” Secondary labels: “ B.C.A.Col. III.(2). Calocladon chiriquense .” “ Calocladon chiriquense Gorham ” (handwritten) “Type ♂ ” (red-edged circle) “ SYNTYPE ” ( NHMUK) . Paralectotypes, 1 male, the same data, Secondary labels: “ B.C.A.Col. III.(2). Calocladon chiriquense .” “ Calocladon chiriquense Gorham ” “ SYNTYPE ” (blue-edged circle). ( NHMUK) ; 1 female, same data ( NHMUK) ; 1 male, “V. de Chiriqui, 25–4000 ft., Champion.” Secondary labels: same data ( NHMUK) .

Diagnosis. The species can be differentiated by the body coloration, with elytra yellow, and elytral suture light brown at basal ¼, that is similar to the following species but having smaller eyes, maxillary palpomere 2 twice longer than palpomere 3, and branch of the third antennomere 1.5× longer than antennomere. The main diagnostic character is the shape of male genitalia with phallus constricted at distal 2/3 and parameres with apical and subapical hooks.

Redescription. Pronotum yellow with centered dark brown spot. Elytra yellow, elytral suture light brown at basal ¼ ( Fig. 16 View FIGURES 16–20 ). Trochanters light brown, femur dark brown with basal 1/3 light brown. Tibiae dark brown.

Eyes medium-sized, eye diameter 1.3× longer interocular distance. Antennomere 4 as long as 5, 1.5× longer than 3. Branch of antennomere 3 1.5× longer than antennomere. Mandibles hooked. Labial palpi short, terminal palpomere rounded apically. Maxillary palpi elongate, palpomere 2 twice longer than palpomere 3 and 1.3× longer than 4, palpomere 4 distally rounded. Pronotum 1.1× wider than long medially, anterior angles slightly projected forward ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1–15 ). Elytra 3.8× longer than humeral width. Trochanters as long as quarter of femur length. Phallus constricted at distal 1/3, broad medially as wide as phallobase in ventral view, forming phallic folding projected ventrally in lateral view. Phallus distally narrow and pointed. Parameres with apical and subapical hook-like projections. Phallobase as long as half of phallus ( Figs. 6–7 View FIGURES 1–15 ). Body length: 5.5 – 6.2 mm, humeral width: 1.2 – 1.4 mm.

Distribution: Panama.

Comments: The syntype series on which the species was based includes members of 2 species. Therefore, according to ICZN (1999, Art. 74.1, 74.7) the lectotype (male) is here designated to become the name-bearing type of Calocladon chiriquense Gorham, 1884 . Simultaneously, 3 paralectotypes (2 males, 1 female) are designated, while remaining syntypes belong to a new genus a description of which is in preparation.
