Stethantyx Townes, 1971 View in CoL View at ENA
Type species: Stethantyx nearctica Townes, 1971 .
Diagnosis. Small to moderately large insects with body length 4.0–10.0 mm. Head strongly transverse; temple in dorsal view strongly narrowed behind eyes, usually half or less than eye width. Mouth parts not especially long. Clypeus lenticular, usually rather broad. Upper tooth of mandible longer than lower tooth. Hypostomal carina absent in most species (probably in all species). Notaulus present or absent, sometimes rather strong. Scutellum with lateral longitudinal carinae usually extending from its base to at least midlength (rarely shorter), sometimes carinae reaching hind end of scutellum and joining there. Prepectal carina not reaching anterior margin of mesopleuron, continuing above and reaching subtegular ridge (or vanishing dorsally). Foveate groove of mesopleuron usually present (rarely weak or absent), situated in anterior part of mesopleuron, deep and transversely wrinkled, moderately to strongly oblique. Propodeal spiracle adjacent to pleural carina or separated from it by at most 3.0× diameter of spiracle. Propodeum with carinae usually strong, with basal area (or occasionally with basal keel), with lateral longitudinal carinae usually partly developed in front of transverse carina. Fore wing with first and second sections of radius meeting at obtuse angle, or in some species at right angle. Pterostigma not especially broad; first section of radius longer than width of pterostigma. Second recurrent vein postfurcal, usually only with short bulla anteriorly. Intercubitus and abscissa of cubitus between intercubitus and second recurrent vein long, not or only slightly thickened. Hind wing with nervellus slightly inclivous to weakly reclivous. Legs slender; spurs of hind tibia straight to weakly curved; tarsal claws not pectinate, often rather long. First metasomal segment with postpetiole conspicuously broader and clearly separated from petiole (dorsal view); glymma present, joining by furrow to ventral part of postpetiole, or sometimes furrow vanishing and glymma is isolated. Thyridial depression elongate. Ovipositor short to moderately long, slender to robust, with weak to rather deep dorsal subapical depression.
