Bellamy (2003) cited Buprestis atra Linnaeus, 1758 as a type species of the subgenus

Epinagrilus . To be available, every new genus­group name published after 1930 must

have its type species fixed in the original publication (Articles 13.3 and 67.4.1) and the

designation must be rigidly construed (Article 67.5). Stepanov (1954) cited “ Agrilus ater

L. solely as “ a typical representative of this species group [in Russian]”. Such a statement

is not to be regarded as a type designation in the meaning of the ICZN (Article 67.5.3 and

examples), thus the name Epinagrilus is an unavailable name. This was discussed

previously by Alexeev (1998).
