Range: —Central Peru to Bolivia (CO, LP, SC).
Ecology: —Common; epiphytic and less commonly terrestrial and saxicolous in humid forests; often in Polylepis forests; 2400–3950 m.
Notes: —Differs from S. intricatum by its broader, more persistent scales, often a chalky white deposit on the rhizomes, and by lacking the dark sclerenchymatous sheath of the vascular bundles of the rhizomes (present in S. intricatum ).
