Serpocaulon ptilorhizon (Christ) A.R.Sm. View in CoL , Taxon 55(4): 929. 2006.
= Polypodium ptilorhizon Christ, Bull. Herb. Boissier View in CoL , sér. 2, 5: 6. 1905.
Range: — Nicaragua to Panama; Andes from Colombia to Bolivia (CO, LP).
Ecology: —Uncommon; epiphytic, in humid forests; 2100–3100 m.
Notes: —The Bolivian specimens may not be conspecific with specimens from Costa Rica, the type locality. Serpocaulon dasypleuron , from Colombia to southern Peru, is likely to occur in Bolivia. It differs from S. ptilorhizon by having long hairs but lacking scales on the rachises and costae (vs. scattered brown scales on rachises and costae, and hairs lacking or scattered on the rachises).
