11. Syzygium palghatense Gamble (1918: 240) View in CoL . Lectotype (designated here):— INDIA. Kerala: Palghat Hills , 5000 ft., s.d., R. H. Beddome 254 (right hand side specimen of K000821391 !; isolectotypes left hand side specimen of K000821391 !, four specimens of MH00002092 !).
Distribution:— India, Kerala (Palakkad district), endemic and critically endangered.
Notes:— Gamble (1918) described Syzygium palghatense based on the specimens collected by Beddome, collection number 254 from Palghat Hills. Two herbarium sheets of Beddome with collection number 254, collected from Palghat Hills were traced, each one at K (K000821391) and MH (MH00002092). The better preserve right hand side specimen of K000821391, is chosen here as the lectotype.
This species was not collected after Beddome’s type collection and so presumed extinct by Nayar & Sastry 1987 and Nayar 1997. Later, in the year 2000 and 2001 few trees of this species were relocated from the type locality by Sujanapal & Sasidharan (2002).
