10. Syzygium munroi (Wight) Chandrabose View in CoL in Sharma et al. (1977: 58). = Eugenia munroi Wight (1841: 14 ; 1842: 3, tab. 546). = Jambosa munroi (Wight) Walpers (1843: 191) . Lectotype (designated here):— INDIA. Karnataka: Coorg (Kodagu), s.d., [Herb. R. Wight] Munro 997 (MH00006602!; isolectotypes MH00006603!, MH20455!).
Distribution:— India, Western Ghats (Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu), endemic.
Notes:— Eugenia munroi was described by Wight (1841) based on the specimens collected from Coorg (Kodagu), Karnataka by Lieutenant Munro. Byng et al. (2015) mentioned that no specimens from this locality have been seen at K, E, CAL or BM and designated Wight’s Illustration (1842: tab. 546) as the lectotype. As mentioned earlier, they have not seen specimens at MH (Madras Herbarium) where many types and collections of Wight are held. Three specimens collected by Munro from Coorg and included by Wight in his herbarium were traced at MH (MH20455, MH00006602 and MH00006603). The lectotype designated by Byng et al. (2015) is not in conformity with Art. 9.12 (syntypes have precedence over illustration/s in lectotype designation) of the ICN ( Turland et al. 2018) and can not be followed. Moreover, the Wight’s Illustration (1842: tab. 546) is not associated with the protologue published in the year 1841. From the above three syntype specimen at MH, the best one MH00006602 ( Figure 7 View FIGURE 7 ), is designated here as the lectotype as it agrees well with the protologue.
