The detailed examination of the seeds of the two varieties of Euphorbia exigua ( Figure 4 View FIGURE 4 ), resulted in no significant differences between the two. The shape, colour, texture and size of the seeds were found to be similar, with very subtle and non-significant variations in the density of the papillae which do not appear specifically linked to any one of the two varieties in comparison. In general, the seeds are ash-grey with a light brownish tinge, measuring (1.15–)1.27(– 1.40) × (0.72–)0.81(–0.94) mm in size, ovate-oblong with a subtruncate base and obtuse apex, having one longitudinal slit at the ventral side and a testa covered with tiny isolated rounded papillae, rarely two or three joined adjacently.
