Cleistocactus samaipatanus (Cárdenas) D.R. Hunt (1987: 92) View in CoL (basionym: Bolivicereus samaipatanus Cárdenas 1951: 9 View in CoL ).
Previously considered an endemic species to Bolivia, with distribution in the Cerrado ( Mamani et al. 2011) and dry valleys of the Andes ( Jørgensen et al. 2014). In Brazil, this species was collected in the Morro do Caracará (Mato Grosso). In Bolivia and Brazil this species grows on rocky outcrops, above 500 m elev.
Specimen examined:— BRAZIL. Mato Grosso: Parque Nacional do Pantanal, Morro do Caracará, 17°51’19.2”S, 57°26’35.3”W, 15 November 2006, G.A. Damasceno Jr. et al. 4284a (CEN!).
