Japanagallia gracilenta View in CoL sp. nov.
( Figs 1–8 View FIGURES 1 – 8 ; 56)
Body length (including tegmina). ♂, 4.0 mm.
Holotype description.
Head and thorax (color). Ground color black. Crown with pair of elliptical black spots approximately equidistant between eye and median line with black stripe on median portion. Face yellowish brown, with inverted “Y” shaped black macula contiguous on its upper portion with crown macula and on its lower portion extending up to anti clypeus and lora; area adjacent to ocelli with pair of black maculae; eyes pale brown; distal half of frontoclypeus evenly black, fused with median black line; large black maculae on antennal ledges; anteclypeus and lora black. Pronotum black, both lateral and posterior margins yellowish brown. Scutellum with yellowish lateral margins. Forewings with basal small spot, claval suture and distal region of claval veins yellow. Legs yellowish. Other color similar to Japanagallia hamata Zhang & Li.
Morphology. Body ( Figs 1–2 View FIGURES 1 – 8 ) slender. Head including eyes wider than pronotum. Crown slightly shorter medially than laterally. Face ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1 – 8 ) across eyes slightly wider than long; anteclypeus nearly oval, projected beyond genae and lorae; lateral margins of genae sinuated on middle. Pronotum two times as long as wide, fore margin distinctively prominent and slightly depressed near eyes, and hind margin slightly concave medially. Scutellum slightly longer than pronotum. Forewings opaque, distal half with yellowish brown tinge, venation slightly prominent, some places obscured.
Male genitalia. Pygofer lobe ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1 – 8 ), in lateral view, broad basally, caudal margin subrounded, with scattered small setae, but without spinelike process and stout setae, ventrocaudal margin slightly elongated. Valve broader than long, front margin slightly concave, both lateral margins prominent outward; hind margin nearly straight, narrower than anterior margin, with both lateral corners bluntly rounded. Subgenital plates, in ventral view, elongate, triangular, not fused to each other on basal part, with few scattered setae. Style ( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 1 – 8 ), with stem straight and stout; inner arm slender and short, apex truncate and slightly expanded. Connective ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 1 – 8 ), with outer margins strongly concave, anterior margin slightly prominent at middle and wider than posterior margin. Aedeagus ( Figs 7–8 View FIGURES 1 – 8 ), in lateral view, slender, dorsal apodeme widened and angulate dorsally; bearing a long, slender, ventral process, curved dorsally, furcated apically, not attaining shaft apex in length, widened and excavated basally; shaft strongly curved dorsally, dorsal margin with irregularly serrated processes in basal half, ventral margin with pair of dorsally directed spinelike processes located medially; in ventral view, shaft with margin parallel sided, apex rounded; gonopore apical on ventral margin.
Female genitalia. Unknown.
Material examined. Holotype: ♂, CHINA: Guangxi Autonomous Region, Baise City, Tianlin County, Langping Village, 23. IV. 2012, collected by Yang Weicheng.
Distribution. China (Guangxi Autonomous Region).
Remarks. This new species is very similar to Japanagallia peculiaris Viraktamath and can be distinguished from the latter by the symmetrical aedeagus with a slender ventral process directed dorsally and bifid apically, slender processes pointed dorsally at the midlength of the shaft on the ventral margin, and the shape of the pygofer lobe.
Etymology. The new species name alludes to the long slender ventral process of the aedeagus.
