Paratypes (52 specimens): 11 ♂ (two specimens dissected), 12 ♀♀ (one specimen dissected): same data as the holotype (1 ♂, 1 ♀: IRSN; 2 ♂♂, 3 ♀♀: cSh; 8 ♂♂, 8 ♀♀: cSt); 1 ♂, 2 ♀♀: ‘ CHILE: Aguas Calientes | - 40,75°S - 72,30°W | 13.12.2013. Description. Measurements (n=53): HW: 0.47–0.53; HL: 0.35–0.47; AL (holotype): 0.98; OL: 0.12–0.14; PL: 0.35–0.41; PW: 0.64–0.61; ESL: 0.73–0.80; EW: 0.75–0.86; AW: 0.74–0.85; MTbL (holotype): 0.30; MTrL (holotype): 0.18 (MTrL 1–4: 0.08; MTrL 5: 0.10); AedL: 0.33–0.40; TL: 2.05–3.46 (holotype: 2.65).
Habitus as in Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1–6 . Head and abdomen reddish-brown to dark brown; antennomeres 5–11 brown; latero-apical portions of head, pronotum, elytra and paratergites yellow-brown to brown; mouthparts, antennomeres 1–4 and legs yellow. Punctation of head fine, irregular, distinctly denser and coarser on infraorbital ridges; neck with irregular, fine and moderately dense punctation; punctation of pronotum dense, significantly larger and deeper than that on head, finer and sparser in basal and middle portions, usually with moderately narrow and long impunctate portion in middle; scutellum without visible punctures; punctation of elytra moderately dense, slightly finer than that on pronotum, denser, deeper and coarser in mediobasal portion, each elytron forming somewhat vague and tangled four to six longitudinal rows of punctures; abdominal tergites without visible punctation. Microsculpture of head dense, transverse on vertex and frons, coarse and diagonal in lateral portions, distinctly coarser on infraorbitral ridges, and somewhat isodiametric in middle; neck with indistinct transverse microreticulation; pronotum without microsculpture except of medioapical portion with indistinct transverse meshes; scutellum with very fine, transverse microreticulation; abdominal tergites with very dense and coarse, isodiametric sculpture.
Head 1.1–1.3 times as broad as long, with distinctly elevated middle portion and slightly elevated infraorbital ridges, with deep anteocellar foveae, diagonally stretching toward level of posterior third of eyes; lateral portions between frons and middle portion of head moderately deeply impressed; temples distinct, but very short, about as long as three nearest ommatidia. Postocular ridges indistinct, obtuse. Distance betweeen ocelli slightly shorter than distance between ocellus and posterior margin of eye. Preapical maxillary palpomere about twice as long as broad; apical maxillary palpomere narrow, about 1.2 times as long as penultimate segment. Antennae reaching basal margin of elytra when reclined; antennomere 5 distinctly broader than 4, about as long as broad, 5 slightly longer and broader than 4, 6–7 slightly longer and broader than 5, 8–9 slightly broader than 7, 10 slightly longer than 9, apical antennomere about 1.3 times as long as 10.
Pronotum 1.4–1.7 times as broad as long, 1.1–1.3 times as broad as head, widest in middle, distinctly more narrowed posteriad than anteriad; lateral edges smooth, without crenulation; middle and mediolateral portions with long and narrow elevations, with two distinct, long and wide longitudinal impressions between them; lateral portions slightly impressed, with indistict oval impressions in about middle.
Elytra slightly shorter than long, about twice as long as pronotum, slightly broadened posteriad; surface of each elytron with four to six logitudinal elevations (several paratypes without longitudinal elevations in middle); hind margins of elytra straight.
Metatarsus 1.6 times as long as metatibia.
Male. Apical margin of abdominal tergite VIII truncate ( Fig. 15 View FIGURES 13–18 ). Apical margin of abdominal sternite VIII widely rounded ( Fig. 16 View FIGURES 13–18 ). Aedeagus with wide basal portion, gradually narrowed toward widely rounded apex; parameres narrow, distinctly exceeding apex of median lobe, with two short apical and two preapical setae; internal sac moderately narrow and short, with five sclerotized structures in basal portion: one narrow and very long in middle and four short and elongate lateral structures ( Fig. 13 View FIGURES 13–18 ). Comparative notes. Omaliopsis struyvei sp.n. can be distinguished from all congeners by strong punctation of the pronotum and the elytra, and the presence of sclerotized elongate structures in the internal sac.
Distribution. The new species is at present known only from the type locality in Los Lagos Region, southern Chile.
Bionomics. The specimens were sifted from fungi and litter, and were collected using car net.
Etymology. Patronymic, the new species is named after my colleague Tim Struyve (Mechelen), collector of the type material.
