Subgenus Procasnoidea Baehr, 1996 View in CoL
Type species: Ophionea foersteri Bouchard, 1903 by original designation.
This subgenus has been described by Baehr (1996) from O. foersteri Bouchard, 1903 , a species very isolated within the genus and characterized by: the elytral intervals 1, 3, 5 and 7 having a row of setiferous punctures, the entire surface blackish-blue, the aedeagus not twisted, comparatively short, with apex not knob-shaped, and the internal sac with only 1 sclerotized plate. We consider that these differences are valid and keep this subgenus separate from Ophionea s. str.
