Leptochiton bednalli ( Torr, 1912) View in CoL
I agree with Gowlett-Holmes (2001) who did not find insertion plates in the type and other materials and transferred this species to the genus Leptochiton . Iredale & Hull (1924), who included this species in the genus Subterenochiton Iredale & Hull, 1924 mentioned posterior gills in the type specimen, which is typical for leptochitonids. Subterenochiton gabrieli ( Hull, 1912) , the type species of the genus Subterenochiton , however, has13 gills arranged from valve II to valve VII which is typical of more derived species.
