Holarctic, Panpalaearctic introduced to Northern Oriental and Afrotropic ( Angola, Madagascar)
Notes. Probably P. lentulus (C.L.Koch, 1841) and Hoploderma italicum Oudemans, 1900 are congeneric. However, it is not possible to establish such a synonymy on the basis of description of Oudemans (1900). Subías (2022) considered this species as congeneric with P. incertus Niedbała, 1983 (= P. conformis Sergenko, 1987 ). However, both species have slightly different shape of trichobothria, and mutual distance between rostral setae is shorter and notogastral setae are longer in P. lentulus .
Subías (2022) considered Phthiracarus rotundus Berlese, 1923 as congeneric with this species. See note of P. rotundus .
