Sceptonia Winnertz 1863: 907 . Type-species, Mycetophila nigra Meigen ( Johannsen 1909: 113) .

S. paiaguensis Lane 1956: 155 , fig. 6 (♂ terminalia). Type-locality: Brazil, Santa Catarina, Nova Teutônia. Holotype ♂, NHM.

Notes. Papavero (1978: 20) indicated that the type of S. paiaguensis is deposited in the MZUSP. The original type series was composed of specimens from Nova Teutônia collected by Fritz Plaumann between 1937–1939, and purchased by the formerly British Museum of Natural History. Hence , the NHM would be the correct indication of the depositary institution of the type specimens. Unfortunately , however, the holotype is entirely missing, including the microslide preparation of the terminalia. The labels of the holotype are as follows: “HOLO- / TYPE” [printed in black on a rounded label with red border]” // “HOLOTIPO [printed in black on a rose label with black border]” / / “ Brasilien / Nova Teutonia / 27º 11’ S 52º 23’ W / Fritz Plaumann / 27.5.1937.” // “Brit Mus / 1938-636” // [originally the male terminalia mounted between square microslides attached to a card, the microslide preparation now missing]” // “ Sceptonia / paiaguensis [hw] / det. John Lane 196[pr]1[hw]” // “ HOLOTYPE [pr] / Sceptonia / paiaguensis [hw] / Lane, 1956 / det. J.E. Chainey, 2002 [pr]” // “BMNH(E) # / 257130”. There is an allotype and a female paratype, both in excellent condition ( BMNH (E) # 2571312) .
