The type series included the male holotype, a female allotype, and seventeen male and female paratypes, of which the NHM has a single male paratype collected in Nova Teutônia.

E. aguarensis Lane 1951b: 329 View in CoL , fig. 1 (♂ terminalia). Type-locality: Brazil, Santa Catarina, Nova Teutônia. Holotype ♂, NHM.

( Figure 224 View FIGURES 214–226 )

Notes. The type series included the male holotype and a female allotype both of which are at the NHM. The labels with the holotype are: “HOLOTIPO [printed in black on a rose label with black border]” // “ Brasilien / Nova Teutonia / 27º 11’ S 52º 23’ W / Fritz Plaumann / 9.7.[hw]193[pr]8[hw]” // “Brit. Mus. / 1938-682 // “HOLO- / TYPE” [printed in black on a rounded label with red border]” // [male terminalia dissected and mounted between microslides attached to a pinned card]” // “BMNH(E) # / 257215” // Epicypta / aguarensis [hw] / det. John Lane 195[pr]1[hw]” // “ HOLOTYPE ♂ of / Epicypta aguarensis / Lane, 1954 / det. N.P. Wyatt 2002”. The holotype is in good condition and only the distal half of the abdomen was removed. The female allotype is labeled BMNH(E) # 257216 GoogleMaps ).

E. bapianensis Lane 1951b: 332 View in CoL , fig. 4 (♂ terminalia). Type-locality: Brazil, Santa Catarina, Nova Teutônia. Holotype ♂, NHM.

( Figure 225 View FIGURES 214–226 )

Notes. The type series included the male holotype, a female allotype, four male and two female paratypes. The labels with the holotype are: “HOLO- / TYPE” [printed in black on a rounded label with red border]” // “HOLOTIPO [printed in black on a rose label with black border]” // “ Brasilien / Nova Teutonia / 27º 11’ S 52º 23’ W / Fritz Plaumann / 19.6.[hw]193[pr]8[hw]” // “Brit. Mus. / 1938-682 // [male terminalia dissected and mounted between microslides attached to a pinned card]” // “BMNH(E) # / 257197” // Epicypta / bapianensis [hw] / det. John Lane 195[pr]1[hw]” // “ HOLOTYPE ♂ of / Epicypta bapianensis / Lane , 1951 / det. N.P. Wyatt 2002”. The holotype GoogleMaps is in good condition. There is a female allotype, plus two male and two female paratypes ( BMNH (E) # 257198-202) .

E. brasiliana ( Edwards) 1932: 147 ( Delopsis ). Type-locality: Brazil, São Paulo, Rio Claro. Holotype ♀, NHM.

( Figure 226 View FIGURES 214–226 )

Notes. The original description makes reference to a female “type” (from Rio Claro, State of São Paulo) and a female “cotype” (from Petrópolis, State of Rio de Janeiro). The labels pinned with the holotype are “ SÃO PAULO [pr] / Rio Claro / Borgmeier / II.1930 [hw] // “HOLO- / TYPE” [printed in black on a rounded label with red border]” // “ Delopsis / brasiliana Edw. [hw] / F.W. Edwards / det. 1931[pr]” // “ HOLOTYPE [pr] / Delopsis / brasiliana / Edwards / det. J.E. Chainey, 1995” // “BMNH(E) # / 257197”. Both forelegs are missing in the holotype. The indication in Papavero (1978:7) of syntypes for this species is incorrect. Lane (1947b, 1951b) redescribed the species illustrating the male terminalia, but the conspecificity of his specimens with the type seems questionable, so they will not be referred to as E. brasiliana until further examination. Lane (1947b: 455) designated a male allotype for this species, deposited in the MZUSP, that has no type-status.

E. duanasi Lane 1951b: 337 View in CoL , fig. 9 (♂ terminalia). Type-locality: Brazil, Santa Catarina, Nova Teutônia. Holotype ♂, NHM.

( Figure 227 View FIGURES 227–239 )

The type series included the male holotype, a female allotype, six male and six female paratypes, of which the male holotype, four male and four female parayptes, and one paratype without abdomen are at the NHM ( BMNH (E) # 257238-46). Two females labeled as “ALOTIPO” by Lane, had a paratype label added by N.P. Wyatt. The labels with the holotype are: “HOLO- / TYPE” [printed in black on a rounded label with red border]” // “HOLOTIPO [printed in black on a rose label with black border]” // “ Brasilien / Nova Teutonia / 27º 11’ S 52º 23’ W / Fritz Plaumann / 9.7.[hw]193[pr]8[hw]” // “Brit. Mus. / 1938-682 // [male terminalia dissected and mounted between microslides attached to a pinned card]” // “BMNH(E) # / 257237” // Epicypta / duanasi [hw] / det. John Lane 195[pr]1[hw]” // “ HOLOTYPE ♂ of / Epicypta aguarensis / Lane, 1951 / det. N.P. Wyatt 2002”. The holotype is in very good condition and is not dissected GoogleMaps .

( Figure 233 View FIGURES 227–239 )

Notes. The type series included six female syntypes, of which a single specimen is at the NHM. The specimen has the following labels: “SYN- / TYPE” [printed in black on a rounded label with light blue border] // “ St. Vincent, W.I. / H.H. Smith. ” // “ W. Indies. / 1907-66.” // “ Mycetophila insipiens / Will. [handwritten, on the back of a label with red borders handwritten Mycetophila insignificans ” // “BMNH(E) # / 257185” // “ SYNTYPE ♀ OF / Mycetophila insipiens / Williston, 1896 / det. N.P. E. dolosa ( Williston) 1896: 264 ( Mycetophila ). Type-locality: St. Vincent, W.I. Lectotype ♂, NHM (here designated). N. comb.

( Figure 234 View FIGURES 227–239 )

Notes. In most of his descriptions, Williston (1896) refers to the gender of the specimens used in the description and to the total number of specimens. In the case of this species, the description refers to males, but there is no indication of the number of specimens. At the NHM five syntypes are conserved, three of which are males and two have the abdomen misssing. The specimen chosen as the lectotype is in good condition, most of the legs and both wings are preserved. The terminalia has not been dissected. The labels of the designated male lectotype are as follows: “SYN- / TYPE” [printed in black on a rounded label with light blue border] // “ St. Vincent, W.I. / H. H. Smith.” // “West Indies 1907-66.” // [small, square red label] // “8” [handwritten on a small, square cream label] // “ Syntype ♂ of / Mycetophila dolosa / Williston, 1896 / det. N.P. Wyatt 2002” [pr] // “ Mycetophila / dolosa [hw] / Williston [printed, on a larger label with red borders]” // “BMNH(E) # / 255335”. The paralectotypes have the following labels: (1) “SYN- / TYPE” [printed in black on a rounded label with light blue border] // “ 1500 feet ” // “ St. Vincent, W.I. / H. H. Smith.” // “West Indies 1907-66.” // [small, square black label] // “ Syntype ♂ of / Mycetophila dolosa / Williston, 1896 / det. N.P. Wyatt 2002” [pr] // “BMNH(E) # / 255336”.
