Notes. As already noted by Matile (1996: 16), the original description stated that the type series is a “ Holotype ♂ and ♀ (taken in copula)”—deposited in the Vienna Museum– and a male, at the NHM. The indication of syntypes for this species in the Neotropical catalogue ( Papavero 1978: 49), as well as the syntype label at the specimen at the NHM are incorrect. The labels of the male paratype at the NHM are: “Fiebrig / Paraguay / San Bernardino” // “SYN- / TYPE” [printed in black on a rounded label with light blue border]” // BM / 1939.639” // [male terminalia dissected, mounted on an acetate sheet] // “ Acnemia / binocellaris [hw] / F.W.Edwards 193[pr]4[hw]” // “BMNH(E) # / 257802”. The collection has three additional specimens from Nova Teutônia.

Notes. The type series included the female holotype and a female paratype, both of which are at the NHM. Notes. The type series included four males and four females syntypes. Matile (1996) revised the genus and formally designated the male syntype as the lectotype, but there is still not a lectotype label on the specimen. The NHM has now only the male lectotype and one of the female paralectotypes (plus two other specimens from the type-locality identified as conspecific, but not labeled as syntypes). The male had its abdomen removed and mounted on a plastic stripe, pinned to the specimen; a missing wing of the lectotype is probably mounted on a separate slide in the NHM Diptera slide collection.
