Eotmethis xiai View in CoL sp. nov.
( Figs.1–6 View FIGURES 1 – 6 )
Holotype: 1♂, Paratype ♂♂ 3, ♀♀ 2, Gulang, Gansu (N37°25′, E102°45′, 2800m), 2006-VII-19, collected by Li Xinjiang and Zheng Jinyu.
Male Body medium size, thickset, with hairs, especially on legs ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 6 ). Vertex short and wide, the width between eyes was about 1.6 times the diameter of eye; fastigial furrow distinct ( Fig. 3 View FIGURES 1 – 6 ). Vertex and dorsal side of head depressed, with granular tubercles. Frontal ridge apparent, whole length with a groove, slightly projecting forward between the bases of antennae, narrowed at lower margin of median ocellus, widened gently downwards, the widest near the base of labrum. Lateral facial carinae apparent. Eyes near elliptic, vertical diameter of eyes about 1.2 times longer than horizontal diameter of eyes. Antennae shorter, with 22 segments, only reaching to the middle of pronotum, length of the middle segment 2 times as long as wide. Pronotum rough, with short subuliform projection, anterior and posterior margin angled protruding in the middle; the median carina elevated into lamellate and cut by hind transverse sulcus deeply than fore and mid transverse sulci ( Fig. 1 View FIGURES 1 – 6 ); prozona equal to metazona in length; in metazona the carina arc-like raised. Prosternum with a lamellate process on the anterior margin which emarginated in the middle part. Interspace of mesosternum lateral lobes trapezoid, wider, width of the narrowest part larger than width of broadest part of lateral lobes. Tegmina developed, the apex reaching to the base of epiproct, R vein with two branches, M vein without branch, Cu vein with a branch ( Fig. 4 View FIGURES 1 – 6 ). Hind femur wide and compressed, its length about 2.9 times of its maximum width; median carina of hind femur on upper side serrated. Hind tibia with 10 spines on outer side and 9 spines on inner side (including apical spine). Arolium between claws of tarsus larger, its apex reaching the middle of claws. Tympanum organ developed. Krause’s organ near semicircle, surface with thinly rugose. Epiproct near tongue-like, with longitudinal groove in middle. Cercus long conical. Subgenital plate short conical, apex acute. Epiphallus shown in fig. 2.
Female Body larger and thick( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 1 – 6 ). Vertex extremely wider, the width between eyes was about 2.1 times width of eye dorsal view. Tegmina lobi-form, separated widely dorsum, the apex reaching the middle of the second abdominal tergite, distinctly longer than the length of metazona. Cercus short conical. Subgenital plate projecting into an acute angle in the middle of posterior margin. Ovipositor valve very short, curve, apex acute.
Coloration. Body browny. Hind femur filemot, with white stripe on outer side, inner side dark blue, inner genicular lobe red, lower area of hind femur on inner side red. Inner side of hind tibia red on the base and end, dark blue on the middle( Fig. 5 View FIGURES 1 – 6 ). Hind tarsus rosiness.
Measurement (in mm). Length of body: ♂24.2–27.2; ♀35.1. Length of tegmina: ♂12.3–14.2; ♀7.6. Length of hind femur: ♂12.2–13.1; ♀15.7.
Diagnosis. The new species is similar to E. recipennis Xi & Zheng, 1986 . The major differences are listed in Table 1 View TABLE 1 .
Etymology The species is named in honor of Prof. Kailing Xia for his contribution on entomology.
