Body very elongate and compressed; 2 dorsal fins; anal fin spine weak and flexible; caudal fin forked; gen- eral coloration light yellowish (almost transparent), dark- er dorsally, usually yellowish olive, and paler, usually white, ventrally, with a conspicuous silver stripe (usually black or dark brown bordered) along the mid-side of the body in both live and preserved specimens; fins usually transparent or light yellow (generally the dorsal and the caudal fins); maximum body length ca 90 mm SL.
