Body elongate, eel-like; scales absent; pectoral, pel- vic and caudal fins absent; dorsal and anal fins vestigial (reduced to a rayless ridge); general coloration grayish brown or yellowish brown, darker dorsally and paler ventrally, usually with dark speckles of variable size ven- trally; maximum body length ca 1500 mm SL.
