Dorcasta dasycera Erichson, 1849 View in CoL
( Fig. 11 View FIGURES 11–18. 11 )
Hippopsis dasycera Erichson, 1849: 574 View in CoL .
Dorcasta dasycera View in CoL ; Lacordaire, 1872: 706; Monné, 2020b: 443 (cat.).
Dorcasta oryx Pascoe, 1858: 264 View in CoL ; Breuning, 1960: 175 (syn.); Monné, 2020b: 443 (cat.).
Dorcasta gracilis Fisher, 1932: 82 View in CoL ; Monné, 2020b: 443 (cat.). Syn. nov.
According to Bezark et al. (2018): “1. We did not examine any specimens of Dorcasta View in CoL from Hispaniola. Therefore, it is not possible to know if there are differences between D. dasycera View in CoL and D. gracilis View in CoL based solely on the original descriptions and photographs of the holotypes; 2. According to Martins & Galileo (2001), when comparing D. singularis View in CoL with D. gracilis View in CoL , the outer elytral spines in D. gracilis View in CoL are convergent. Although they appear that way in the holotype of D. gracilis View in CoL , the feature is variable in D. dasycera View in CoL , and the spines can be distinctly convergent as well, independent of the locality.” Now, we examined specimens from the Dominican Republic, and can confirm that D. gracilis View in CoL is a junior synonym of D. dasycera View in CoL , because there no differences between these specimens from the Dominican Republic and specimens from Venezuela. For complete references on the three synonyms see Monné (2020b) and Tavakilian and Chevillotte (2019).
