Although the original description listed a bathymetric range of 775–1550 m for this species, Sirenko (2001) also reidentified a specimen as Leptochiton vanbellei View in CoL that Kaas (1991) identified as Leptochiton (Leptochiton) belknapi View in CoL from New Caledonia (21°16'S, 166°44'E), 2340 m.
