Platypalpus Macquart, 1828 View in CoL
Diagnosis. Very small to medium-sized hybotid flies with body length varying from 1.0 to 6.0 mm, with the following combination of characters: eyes separated in both sexes, lacking ommatrichia; postpronotal lobe well differentiated; scutum usually distinctly longer than broad; mid leg raptorial (mid femur usually thickened and ventrally armed with two rows of spine-like setae, mid tibia usually with ventroapical spur that is a more or less prominent and rarely absent); wing with cell cua present ( Barták & Kubík 2015).
The species of Platypalpus are arranged in eleven species-groups that represent semi-natural groups ( Chvála 1975, 1989; Grootaert & Chvála 1992). Only three species-groups are represented in the present study. To facilitate retrieval of the species, the new species are treated per species-group. Within the species-groups they are arranged in alphabetic order.
