Stenus pretoriensis Puthz, 1971

Type locality. South Africa, Gauteng Province, Pretoria .

Material examined. SOUTH AFRICA: Eastern Cape: 6 ♂, 9 ♀: NE of Somerset East, NW Glen Avon farm, 32°42.7’S, 25°38.4’E, 17.xi.2021, J. Janák lgt. ( JJRC) ; Free State: 3 ♂: 42 km S Bloemfontein, pond, Hwy N1, 29°28’ S, 26°08’ E, 16.xii.2009, treading, J. Janák lgt. ( JJRC) ; KwaZulu-Natal: 2 ♂: Maloti-Drakensberg Park, 1880m, 29°17.3’ S, 29°36.0’ E, Highmoor NR, Caracal cave env., 1.i.2018, P. Bulirsch & M. Těšínský lgt. ( JJRC) ; 21 ♂, 3 ♀ ( JJRC) : 10km NW of Winterton , pasture, pond, ca 28°45’ S, 29°25’ E, 21.xi.2006, J. Janák lgt. Distribution. The species is recorded from South Africa only (Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Eastern Cape, Free State, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo provinces).

Remarks. The labelling of Figs. 4 and 5 in Puthz (2006) is incorrect. Fig. 4 in the plate should be labelled as Fig. 5 (refers in reality to S. gerardi and not to S. pretoriensis ) and Fig. 5 should be labelled by Fig. 4 (refers in reality to S. pretoriensis and not to S. gerardi ), which follows from next pictures ( Puthz 2006: Figs. 41–49 , 57–60 ). The identification of records published by Janák (2008) as S. pretoriensis and S. gerardi were based simply on these pictures and should be corrected as follows: records of S. pretoriensis refers in reality to S. gerardi (KwaZulu-Natal: Crocodile Farm, Hluhluwe) and record of S. gerardi refers in reality to S. pretoriensis (10 km NW of Winterton).
