Elaphoglossum burchellii (Baker) C.Chr., Index Filic. View in CoL 304. 1905. ( Fig. 29D–J View FIGURE 29 )

Range: —Hispaniola; Costa Rica and Panama; Andes from Venezuela to Bolivia (CO, LP, SC, TA); southeastern Brazil and adjacent Paraguay.

Ecology: —Fairly common; saxicolous and terrestrial on earthen banks, roadsides, and rocks, in humid forests; (1000–)1350–2400(–3900) m.

Notes: —This is one of three Bolivian species (along with E. huacsaro and E. nigrescens ) belonging to the monophyletic group of E. ciliatum ( Vasco et al. 2009b) . This group of nine species is characterized by rhizomes that dry blackish and produce a shiny, lacquer-like exudate when dry. It has been monographed by Vasco et al. (2009a). Elaphoglossum ciliatum (C.Presl) T.Moore from Costa Rica to southern Peru may occur in Bolivia. It has shorter leaves (20–45 × 1.2–2.3 cm vs. 30–80 × 2.2–3.5 cm); thinner (2–3 mm thick vs. 2.5–4 mm) and longer-creeping rhizomes that lack prominent scales, and is predominantly epiphytic.
