& Kulkarni 2003: 147.
Diagnosis. fPp = N/N/BNN; Pc = 3; Gn = 2; fSc: PL> AM >> AL; SB-PL; fCx = 1.1.1; fSt = 2.2; fD = 2H-8-6-6- 6-4-2; DS = 32–36; VS = 29–39; NDV = 63–74; Ip = 773–842; AW 67–79, PW 81–92, SB 32–38, ASB 25–32, PSB 16–18, SD 39–49, AP 20–30, AM 53–65, AL 36–45, PL 56–67, S 63–84, H 54–66, D min 34–48, D max 50–64, V min 22–25, V max 45–54, pa 254–292, pm 236–268, pp 263–290.
L. pakistanum : fD = 2H-8-6-6-6-4; DS = 32; VS = 30; NDV = 62; Ip = 814–864; AW 71–74, PW 80–87, SB 33–38, ASB 30–33, PSB 17–18, SD 48–50, AP 27–30, AM 54–57, AL 38–40, PL 52–67, S 80–94, H 58–70, D min 44–48, D max 54–65, V min 36–37, V max 50–54, pa 280–299, pm 249–265, pp 285–300.
Type data. Ukraine, Cherkasy Province, Kaniv, from Myodes glareolus (Schreber) ( L. silvaticum ); Pakistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, Ghizer District, from Apodemus sp. ( L. pakistanum ).
Remarks. Comparison of L. pakistanum with L. silvaticum shows that these species are identical. The fD given for L. silvaticum by Vercammen-Grandjean and Langston (1976) (followed by Fernandes & Kulkarni 2003) is wrong; really this species has fD = 2H-8-6-6-6-4-…, as well as L. pakistanum , but not 2H-8-6-6-4-4-2. Another difference given by the above authors to support the separation of L. pakistanum concerns the shape of barbs on humeral setae; this is an obvious case of individual variation.
