Caruzo & Cordeiro (2007) treated the specimens at G as holotype of Croton cinctus View in CoL , although no herbarium is mentioned in the protologue of this name ( Müller Argoviensis 1873). Following the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi and plants ( Turland et al. 2018) and Prado et al. (2015), this cannot be considered an inadvertent lectotypification as this was published after 1 January 2001 (Art. 9.19). Therefore, the lectotype for this name is designated here using a specimen from LE, where Riedel’s main sets of collections were deposited. The type of Astraea cincta ,. Riedel 608, comes from Rio Pardo, which was attributed to the state of São Paulo by Müller Argoviensis (1873). However, according to Riedel’s itinerary in Flora Brasiliensis ( Urban 1906), this locality is actually from Mato Grosso do Sul.

In the case of Astraea aureomarginata, Berry in Zuloaga et al. (2007) indicated E. Hassler 5010 at G as the holotype of this name, although no direct mention of this herbarium is presented in the protologue of Croton aureomarginatus ( Chodat & Hassler 1905) . Also, a duplicate of this collection was deposited at B, although this was destroyed during World War II ( Merrill 1943). As the indication of the specimen at G as the holotype of A. aureomarginata was done after 1 January 2001, it does not represent an inadvertent lectotypification. Nevertheless, in support of this view, Berry annotated a specimen at G as the lectotype of A. hauthalii , which has the exact same scenario, with the B specimen destroyed. Therefore, we formally designate the specimen at G as the lectotype of A. aureomarginata .

Type specimens of Croton rumicifolius (E. Hassler 4386) are distributed in many herbaria, and most likely were mounted to represent leaf blade diversity due to the presence of multiple individuals or different leaf shape in a same branch. Among the five specimens at G, the herbarium holding most of Hassler’s collections, we selected the specimen that was incorporated from Chodat’s herbarium (G00448447), mounted in two sheets and with notes and illustrations by Chodat.
