Description
Colour
Dorsum and venter mostly brown to dark brown. Pronotum with pair of small yellow marks on anterior half near lateral margins, located just before conical protuberances, and pair of inconspicuous yellow marks at inner bases of conical protuberances. Forewings with irregular yellow maculae located mainly on clavus and also on small portions of discal and brachial cells on basal half of corium and inner anteapical and brachial cells on distal half of corium.
Length
Length of male, 22 mm (approximate value because the specimen was mounted with the left forewing spread and the right wing was removed and glued on a small piece of cardboard).
Morphology
Head, thorax, and male genitalia ( Figures 2 View Figure 2 A–D) much as in Z. emmrichi sp. nov. Head with each ocellus distinctly closer to adjacent eye angle than to median line of crown. Forewings without a membranous area; veins clearly distinct. Styles ( Figure 2C View Figure 2 ), in dorsal view, with apical half (behind outer lobe) elongate, narrow, and directed inwards. Apex of aedeagus ( Figure 2D View Figure 2 ), in lateral view, with pair of broad dorsal processes directed ventrally, each process with two spiniform projections, one directed anteriorly and the other ventrally.
Material
Holotype, male: ‘‘ Guatemala’ ’; ‘‘ R. H. F. Rippon coll.\ N. M. W. 1918.93’’ ( NMGW).
Etymology
The species epithet refers to the country of origin of the holotype, which represents now the northernmost known record of Zyzzogeton .
