Gasteruption brandaoi n. sp. ( Fig. 7 View FIGURE 7 )

Etymology. The epithet for this species is in honor of Dr. Carlos Roberto Ferreira Brandão, curator of Hymenoptera, Museu de Zoologia, Universidade de São Paulo.

Diagnosis. Differs from G. rafaeli by the mesoscutum densely punctate rugose ( Fig. 7c View FIGURE 7 ); and the pronotum ventral lobe rugose ( Fig. 7d View FIGURE 7 ). Differs from other Neotropical species by the mesoscutum punctate rugose; the metacoxa striate; the occipital carina wide dorsally and laterally ( Fig. 7c View FIGURE 7 ); the head longer than wide ( Fig. 7a View FIGURE 7 ); the ovipositor sheath longer than the metasoma ( Fig. 7e View FIGURE 7 ); and the fore wing discal cell absent (as in Fig. 1b View FIGURE 1 ).

Description. Female ( Fig. 7e View FIGURE 7 ). Length: 16.9 mm (14.3–19.0 mm) (n=7); ovipositor sheath length 0.97 (0.89– 1.02) × body length.

Head. Subtrapezoidal in dorsal view, longer than wide ( Fig. 7a View FIGURE 7 ), punctulate; mandible pre-apical tooth distinct; malar space short, almost separated from gena; posterior ocellus inserted at the level of upper eye margin; occipital carina relatively wide dorsally and laterally ( Fig. 7b View FIGURE 7 ). Head length 1.41 (1.34–1.61) × eye length; eye length 20.46 (15.80–23.67) × malar space; distance from posterior ocellus to occipital margin 2.25 (2.00–2.76) × distance between posterior ocelli; 1 st flagellomere 1.24 (1.13–1.31) × as long as scape, 1.76 (1.62–2.10) × as long as pedicel, 0.66 (0.55–0.84) × as long as 2 nd flagellomere. Color: black, clypeus with anterior portion lighter than remaining, antenna dark brown.

Mesosoma. Propleuron imbricate; pronotal process distinct; pronotum ventral lobe rugose, dorsal and posterior lobes imbricate, area between lobes crenulate; mesonotum rounded in lateral view ( Fig. 7d View FIGURE 7 ); mesoscutum densely punctate rugose ( Fig. 7c View FIGURE 7 ); mesoscutelum rugulose; mesepimeron scrobiculate; metapleuron areolate, ventral region with a reduced smooth (or rugulose) portion; propodeum areolate, longitudinal carina indistinct; metacoxa finely striate. Mesosoma (excluding propleuron) 1.84 (1.70–2.09) × as long as high; propleuron 1.92 (1.74–2.10) longer than its largest wide, 1.26 (1.21–1.28) × pronotum length; metacoxa 3.12 (2.96–3.32) × as long as wide; metatibia 5.03 (4.50–5.63) × as long as wide, 1.40 (1.34–1.48) × as long as femur, 3.00 (2.75–3.19) × as long as 1 st tarsomere. Fore wing discal cell absent; hind wing with 3 hamuli, not equidistant. Color: propleuron and mesonotum black; mesopleuron and metapleuron black to red brown; propodeum black; fore and middle legs with coxa, trochanter, femur and tibia red brown, tibia with a yellow longitudinal stripe, tarsus yellow, with apical tarsomeres gradually darker than basal ones; hind leg with coxa, trochanter, femur and tibia dark brown, subbasal portion of tibia yellow, 1 st tarsomere yellow, with base dark brown, 2 nd –3 rd yellow, 4 th –5 th dark brown.

Metasoma. Imbricate, 3.19 (2.95–3.44) × as long as mesosoma; subgenital sternun notched, Y-shaped; ovipositor sheath 1.55 (1.40–1.76) × as long as metasoma. Color: dark brown; ovipositor sheath dark brown, with apex yellow brown.
