Pterygosoma bibronii pseudorbicularis Jack, 1962: 584 , fig.4
Type host: Agama impalearis (Sauria: Agamidae ). Type locality: Algeria (Oran) .
Redescription. FEMALE (based on 9 specimens from type host species, Agama impalearis ). Gnathosoma . Chelicerae about 285 long; swollen cheliceral part about 120 long, slender distal part asbout 165 long. Fixed cheliceral digit about 15 long. Setae dF and dG 40–60 and 50–70 long, respectively. Palpal tibia with short claw; palpal tarsi with 3 setae. Subcapitulum with filiform setae n, 25 long. Peritremes 165–190 long. Hypostome about 140 long, with smooth rounded apex. Idiosoma 715–1035 long and 1000–1120 wide ( idiosoma always wider than long). Dorsum with 4 groups of setae: 53–67 pairs of antero-lateral serrate setae, 55–110 long; 2 pairs of dorso-median setae: setae dm1 serrate, 50–75 long, setae dm2 smooth, about 250 long; 7–13 pairs of slightly apically expanded setae, 145–210 long located medio-laterally and 11–16 pairs of fine-pointed postero-lateral setae, 200–250 long. Eyes absent. Venter. Setae vm1 filiform, vm2 and vm3 serrate. Genital slit situated dorsally. Genital series represented by 3 pairs of spine-like setae g1–g3, 40–55, 15–25 and 30–35 long, respectively. Pseudanal series represented by 7 pairs of apically expanded setae, 70–110 long (in 1 specimen setae ps1–ps7 subequal in length). Legs chaetotaxy as in persicum group i.e. setae of trochanters I–IV (1–1–1–1), femora I–IV (3–1–1–1), genua I–IV (3–1–1–1), tibiae I–IV (5–3–3–3). All setae on each podomere filiform, except for slightly serrate setae d’FI–IV. Setation of tarsi I−IV as in group A: I 13 setae (ft, tc’, tc”, p’, p”, a’, a”, it’, it”, u’, u”, vs’, vs”) and solenidion ω1; II 8 setae (tc’, p’, p”, a’, a”, u’, u”, vs’) and ω1; III and IV with 8 setae each (tc’, p’, p”, a’, a”, u’, u”, vs’). Setae tc’ of legs II–I and a’, a”, u’, u”, vs’, vs” of legs I–IV slightly serrate.
MALE. Unknown.
Type material (not examined). Type material from Agama impalearis Boettger (Sauria: Agamidae ), ALGE- RIA: Ain Sefra and Oran, 3 July 1913.
Type material deposition. All type material deposited in the NHM is lost (Janet Beccaloni, personal communication) .
Non-type material (examined). Six females (AMU-PTE26.1) from Agama impalearis ( ZMUC no. R3696)
[ gular folds], MOROCCO: 23 April 1980, coll. unknown ; 3 females ( ZMUC no. R3697) from same host species ( ZMUC no. R3697) and locality, 23 April 1980, coll. unknown .
Host and distributions. This species is recorded from Agama impalearis from Algeria [Ain Sefra, Oran] ( Jack 1962a) and Morocco (new locality) (present study).
Remarks. This species was originally described by Jack (1962a) as a subspecies of Pterygosoma bibronii from Agama impalearis (Agamidae) i.e. Pterygosoma bibronii pseudorbicularis Jack, 1962 . However, in the present study I treat this subspecies as a distinctive species based on morphological differences found between these two species. In P. pseudorbicularis the idiosoma is rounded (vs. the idiosoma is much wider than long in P. bibronii ), 53–67 pairs of the antero-lateral setae are present (vs. 110–128 pairs of these setae) and setae dm2 are smooth and about 250 long (vs. setae dm2 are serrate and 60–75 long).
Moreover, the study of freshly collected specimens of P. pseudorbicularis shows that paired setae vs on tarsi I are present vs. unpaired seta vs according to Jack (1964).
The neotype is not designated for this species because the specimens are not taken from type locality (see Article 75.3.6 of the ICZN 1999, 2012).
