Pterygosoma tenuisetis Jack, 1962: 587 , fig. 7
Type host: Agama agama (Sauria: Agamidae ). Type locality: Sudan (Mongalla).
Redescription. FEMALE (based on lectotype and 6 paralectotypes from A. agama and 1 non-type specimen from A. aculeata ). Gnathosoma . Chelicerae 225–260 long; swollen cheliceral part 80–95 long, slender distal part 145–170 long. Fixed cheliceral digit with barely discernible minute tines, 15–20 long. Palpal setae dF and dG subequal in length, 45–60 long. Palpal tibia with small claw; palpal tarsi with 3 setae. Subcapitulum with filiform setae n 15–20 long. Peritremes 160–190 long. Hypostome 175–195 long, with small teeth present at rounded apex. Idiosoma 515–615 long and 1080–1200 wide. Dorsum. Antero-lateral part with 50–60 pairs of serrate setae, 30–60 long; medial part with 2 pairs of dorso-median setae dm1 and dm2. Setae dm1 serrate, 35–45 long; setae dm2 serrate and slightly apically expanded, about 45 long. Peripheral series represented by 19–24 pairs of smooth setae of 3 types: fine-pointed, tapered or slightly apically expanded, 120–195 long. All peripheral setae inserted terminally, except for dorsally inserted 2 pairs of setae (1 pair near genital region, 1 pair laterally). Eyes absent. Venter. Setae vm1 filiform, vm2 and vm3 thick and serrate. Genital slit situated mainly dorsally. Genital series represented by 3 pairs of spine-like setae g1–g3, 20–25 long. Pseudanal series represented by 4–8 pairs of slightly apically expanded setae, 55–90 long. Legs chaetotaxy as in inermis group i.e. setae of trochanters I–IV (1–1–1–1), femora I–IV (3–1– 1–1), genua I–IV (2–0–0–1), tibiae I–IV (5–3–3–3). All setae on each podomere filiform, except for slightly serrate setae dFI–IV. Setation of tarsi I−IV as in group A: I 13 setae (ft, tc’, tc”, p’, p”, a’, a”, it’, it”, u’, u”, vs’, vs”) and solenidion ω1; II 8 setae (tc’, p’, p”, a’, a”, u’, u”, vs’) and ω1; III and IV with 8 setae each (tc’, p’, p”, a’, a”, u’, u”, vs’). Setae tc’ of legs II–IV and a’, a”, u’, u”, vs’, vs” of legs I–IV smooth.
MALE. Unknown.
Type material (examined). A. Shaw; 2 female paralectotypes ( NHM no. 1966.2.22.670–679) from same host species ( NHM no. 1927.8.13.29–37), SOUTH SUDAN: Central Equatoria state, Mongalla, 13 August 1927, coll. S. S. Flower.
Non-type material (examined). One female ( NHM no. 1966.2.22.692–701) from Agama aculeata Merrem ( NHM no. 1917.8.27.6), SOUTH AFRICA: Northern Cape Province, Modder River near Kimberley , 27 August 1917, coll. J. H. Power.
Type material deposition. All types deposited in the NHM .
Hosts and distributions. This species was recorded from Agama agama from Sudan [Central Equatoria state, Mongalla; Jubek State, Rejaf], South Sudan [Jonglei State, Bor; Bahr-el-Ghazal], Gambia [Cape St. Mary] and Agama aculeata from South Africa [Northern Cape Province, Modder River near Kimberley] and Uganda [Amudat District, Amudat] ( Jack 1962a).
