Campylonotus capensis Spence Bate, 1888 View in CoL

Occurs in the southwestern Atlantic from Pernambuco ( Brazil) to Cape Horn ( Torti & Boschi 1973; Boschi et al. 1981, 1992), and southern Indian Ocean Islands: Marion Island and the Crozet Islands ( Ledoyer 1979); also recorded as larvae east of the Falkland Islands (Thatje et al. 2001); benthic, 252–1250 m. Yaldwyn (1960) restricted the type locality of this species to Marion Island, although without designating a lectotype. A genetic and morphological comparison between the southwestern Atlantic populations and those from the southern Indian Ocean would be desirable, as Ledoyer (1979) highlighted potential morphological differences.
