Widely distributed in the tropical and temperate Eastern Pacific from Baja California and the Galápagos Islands southwards, reaching its southern limit at Golfo de Ancud, Chiloé Island (southern Chile) ( Holthuis 1952; Wicksten 1983; Ceseña et al. 2016) (southern Chile); benthic, 6– 46 m.
