Regalana hanki View in CoL sp. nov.

( Figs 40 View FIGURES 40 ─51, 101)

Diagnosis. Male pygofer (Fig. 45) with posterior margin rounded. Style (Figs 47, 48) with ventral margin not serrated. Aedeagus (Figs 49─51) shaft with three or four spiniform marginal projections on apical half; apex with four pairs of processes: LD shorter than AL in dorsal view and LV directed ventrally, in same plane as shaft in lateral view, and without projections.

Measurements (mm). Holotype male: total length 5.4.

Coloration. Male sternite VIII (Fig. 44) posterior margin with brown median macula extending towards the center.

External morphology. Head ( Fig. 40 View FIGURES 40 ) with transocular width about 5/6 of pronotum humeral width. Clypeus (Fig. 41) about as long as wide; apical margin straight. Forewing (Fig. 43) approximately 3.4 times longer than wide.

Male terminalia. Sternite VIII (Fig. 44) with lateral margins convex, posterior margin slightly concave. Pygofer (Fig. 45) with posterodorsal margin nearly rectilinear; posteroventral margin slightly convex; apex rounded. Valve, in ventral view, about as wide as long; lateral margins convergent posteriorly; posterior margin slightly convex. Subgenital plate (Figs 45, 46) widest at midlength. Connective (Fig. 47) with rami slightly longer than stem; apex slightly concave. Style (Figs 47, 48) apical portion with ventral margin smooth, not serrated. Aedeagus (Figs 49─51) shaft tubular, elongated, and curved dorsally, lateral margins with three (left) and four (right) spiniform processes at apical third; apex with four pairs of processes: anteromedian (AM) spiniform on posterior surface, anterolateral (AL) long, slender, directed anteriorly, and each slightly divergent, but with tips abruptly converging and distant from other for over half their own length in dorsal view, laterodorsal (LD) directed dorsally and originating from LV, short process on basal third, lateroventral (LV) spiniform, approximately half length of shaft, directed ventrally, at same plane as shaft in lateral view, and without projections.

Female unknown.

Etymology. The new species name alludes to Hank, the ranger, one of the protagonists of the TV series Dungeons & Dragons.

Material examined. Holotype male, “ PERU: Cusco, 19 rd km W Quincemil,\ Rio Araza tributary\ 13º20’10”S 70º50’57”W 874m \ 23-31.VIII.2012 Malaise RR Cavichioli,\ JA Rafael, APM Santos & DM Takiya”, “ DNA voucher:\ Entomologia, DZRJ \ ENT 1301”, MUSM.

Notes. Regalana hanki sp. nov. is the smallest known species of the genus. Of the new species herein described, it is the most similar to the type-species, R. corona , sharing with it the shaft with lateral spiniform processes, presence of all (and only) four pairs of elongate processes, and apical lateroventral processes in the same plane as the shaft in lateral view. However, the new species can be easily distinguished from the latter and other Regalana species by the diagnostic characters above, in addition to a more lateral origin of LD, which seems to originate from LV, and by the absence of projections of LV (Figs 49, 50).

The new species was collected with a Malaise intercept trap crossing a stream in an unflooded Amazonian Rainforest.
