TYPE LOCALITY: Brazil, Minas Gerais, Lagoa Santa .
DISTRIBUTION: C. Brazilian Highlands in the States of Mato Grosso, Goias, Minas Gerais, Bahia, and Sao Paulo.
COMMENT: Subgenus Dusicyon or Lycalopex ; see Cabrera, 1958:236; Van Gelder, 1978:8. Lycalopex has also been considered a synonym of Dusicyon by Clutton-Brock et al., 1976, 29(3): 186. AL considers Lycalopex a distinct genus.
