TYPE LOCALITY: Peru, Piura Dept., Sechura Desert, Sullana .
DISTRIBUTION: N. W. Peru and S. W. Ecuador.
COMMENT: Subgenus Dusicyon or Pseudalopex ; see Cabrera, 1958:235; Van Gelder, 1978:7. Pseudalopex has been considered a synonym of Dusicyon by Cabrera, 1958:229; and Clutton-Brock et al., 1976, 29(3): 166; a subgenus of Dusicyon by Langguth, 1969, Z. Wiss. Zool., 179:176; a subgenus of Canis by Langguth, 1975:193; and Van Gelder, 1978:7.
